Usage of Lemon Basil

Salam, hari ni terlebih awal bangun pagi pukul 5 pagi sebab ayah Naufal terima emergency call..apa yang pecah tah kat kilang nyer...sesudah subuh terus pegi keje...jadi mama pun bersiap awal lah..sempat belek kebun pagi-pagi..heheh...:D

Ini nak kenalkan..my first herb..orang lain dah kenal..mama jer terkial-kial cari nak confirmkan cambahan lemon basil mana satu...:D

The leaf like an outer space ship - taken on 3rd Dec 2012

Actually I sowed several type of seeds in several plastic and ceramic pots. Then a bit confused which one is a lemon basil seem I did not put any label to the pots. I recognized this herb after did some searched on "suka-suka" blog last week. Thanks to K.Mar. - http://mountainebony.blogspot.com/

The feature of the leaf which a bit shiny, attracted me to buy it. I imagined it can be a beauty natural border to my vegetable patch. After put an order to "Kebun Bahagia Bersama", my mind started to think what else can I do with this herb. Okay these are what came across my mind for lemon basil.

1.     Basil can be a decoration plant in my kitchen or in my yard.
2.     Obviously this herb can be used in lots of western food such as pizza, bun, pasta, spaghetti and etc.
3.     Marinate chicken, meat and fish.

Then errrmm no more ideas that I can think. Well no worry, I used my Mr. Google and found that lemon basil also can be used in several styles of Malay's cooking such as:

1. Sprinkle on dry fried cooking like Fried Meat with ketchup, Fried Squid, Fried Prawn and etc.
2. As decoration especially on sambal cooking. The smell of basil can bring an appetite.
3. Chopped basil leaf can be put to scrambled egg and omelette egg.
4. Thai Green Curry. I tried this recipe last month used Thai Basil. Maybe it can alternate to Thai Basil. Later I will give a try.
5. In a steam cooking. I saw the recipe in Kebun Malay - Kadazan Girl's blog.
6. Last but not least, as ulam. This one I like most.

Thus, it is quite worth buying seem there are so many things I can do with this basil. I did placed the seeds in several plastic pots and ceramic pots but only in the ceramic pots germinated. Now, my lemon basil is about three weeks and I'm still waiting and hoping others will show a positive sign.

This morning, mama collect all the germinated basil and transfer to the bigger vase - 10th Dec 2012
